Why are only five states featured this year?

As part of our two-year plan, we’ve selected five pilot states (NJ, OR, SC, MN, NM) to find and develop models so that in the second year, we can host NCM in all 50 states using models that we’ve been able to develop on a smaller scale. [top]

How were the five pilot states selected?

We went through an exhaustive process to identify five states that represent a diversity of population (i.e. age, ethnicity, faith, education), region of the country, nonprofit infrastructure (i.e. nonprofit associations, networking groups, related graduate degree programs), geography (i.e. major urban centers, rural areas), population size and density, and service corps (i.e. City Year chapters, Bonner Fellows). Based on all of these factors, we selected five states that could serve as models for finding and developing resources to use in year two. [top]

How is Nonprofit Career Month different from Idealist?

NCM is a project of Idealist. However, the month and its website exist independently to showcase the depth of resources and expertise across the sector. [top]

Why does this project only last for a month?

It doesn’t! While there will be a push during the month of October, the NCM site will be active all year round. When planning this project, we knew that it would be useful to have one month as a galvanizing focus, but wanted to make sure the resources were available year-round. In October, you’ll see a concentrated amount of activity including new resources, in-person events, and regular blog posts. While the frequency of new additions to the site may slow down after October, everything will still be available throughout the rest of the year. The month will ideally motivate people to create models that they and others can learn from and utilize during the rest of the year. [top]
